A flavour of Kobra

Yr 3 had a wonderful art session with the resident artist today. They focused on creating a contemporary take on the painting: The Finding of Moses. They briefly recapped on the painting from the Take One Picture project. They had a practise at drawing the outline or silhouette of a pose. They then created their own tableau of poses which were drawn onto a pre- painted piece of cardboard. They investigated the work of the Brazilian street artist, Eduardo Kobra. They focused on cutting out vinyl triangular shapes and arranging them in the style of Kobra on their tableau silhouette. They then looked at their work and noticed that it wasn’t as colourful as Kobra’s artwork so more triangular and diamond shapes were added using felt tips.

Investigating how Seurat used colours

The children continued to look at how Seurat used colours. They found out Seurat used optical colour mixing when he chose colours for his paintings. They used felt tips to mix primary colours. After that they experimented with mixing complementary colours. There were a few wows as they realised how effective the optical colour mixing was.

Medium term plan: Seurat

This half term, year 3 will be finding out about Seurat and Pointillism. The will look at the painting, A Sunday on the Grande Jatte in detail. They will explore how Seurat used colours and will experiment with using felt tips, ear buds and fine paint brushes to practise their pointillist skills. They will then create their own pointillist artwork and then reflect on how they used colour. They will also express their opinions about his work giving reasons.

Lockdown Art

Year 3 completed their work on investigating patterns. As you can see below some fantastic work indeed.

Investigating patterns by completing a design in a different colourway.

Using a stencil to and using sketching skills to create patterns.

Using Rotation and symmetry to create a new pattern

Observing and copying patterns found on animals

Designing a pattern for a purpose
