Year 3 had fun creating their clay models of Stonehenge. They needed to ensure that they used a slip to ‘glue’ pieces together and that their models were stable on the bases.
Stonehenge bases
Year 3 worked with their partners to prepare their bases for their clay models of Stonehenge. They were given the choice of using paper mache with glue and green paint, painting , using felt and tissue paper and covering their board with paper, cellophane and tissue paper.
They worked really well together. I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product when they have made their Stonehenge models out of clay.
Remembrance Day Art
Year 3 had fun using collage techniques to create a piece of poppy art. They tore pieces of red paper and black crinkle paper to create their collage.
Paper modelling of Stonehenge
Year 3 were set a challenge. They were given a board, 2 different coloured strips of sugar paper and tape. Their challenge was to work out how big to make the Sarsen and Blue stones and how to ensure that their stones stayed upright.
Designing a model
The children looked at all the sketching they have done over the last few weeks. They then started to design and annotate their own model of Stonehenge, in preparation of creating one out of clay.
Stonehenge sketching
Year 3 practised sketching Stonehenge from an aerial viewpoint. They observed carefully to create sketches that looked more 3D.
Sketching skills
The children did a guided Stonehenge sketch last week. This week they looked carefully at an image of Stonehenge and sketched it.
Stonehenge
The children found out about Stonehenge and the variety of reasons it was built. They were then guided as to how to sketch Stonehenge, observing size, shape and proportion.
