LO: to design and plan a Victorian Christmas gift

Osborne House has issued a challenge, to create a gift fit for a queen. Some of the gifts will be displayed at Osborne House. We set about finding out about Victorian Christmas traditions. The children were surprised to find out that all our Christmas traditions come from the Victorians. They also watched a a video showing a typical Victorian Christmas, noticing the differences and similarities between then and now. The children then chose some activities to plan and design: a keepsake box and picture frame.

LO: to reflect on my Stonehenge sculpture

Year 3 reflected on their models of Stonehenge.They looked carefully at them and wrote down what skills they learnt, what they liked, what they thought went well and what they would change if they made it again.

LO: to use clay to create a model of Stonehenge

Year 3 looked at a variety of ways of using clay. They then worked with their partner to create their Stonehenge model, remembering to use a slip to ensure that their model stayed on the boards which they prepared a few weeks ago.

LO: to create a model of Stonehenge from paper and card

Year 3 created 3D models of Stonehenge from paper and card. They worked with their partner, folding and pleating paper or card. Their challenge was to use two different coloured card to represent the Saracen and Blue stones which make up Stonehenge and arrange them in a horseshoe shape or circle ensuring that their card ‘stones’ stayed upright.

LO: I can prepare my base for my Stonehenge model

Year 3 had an enjoyable time preparing their bases for their Stonehenge models. They looked at their plans and chose the materials they had had written down. Their children had four options: paper mache and green paint, painting, covering their boards with paper or covering their boards with felt and cellophane.

Year 3 started planning the bases for their Stonehenge models. They chose the materials they’d like to use and the corresponding equipment. They then labelled a diagram of a Stonehenge model on a base showing their choices.

LO: to use sketching pencils to sketch an aerial view of Stonehenge from a picture

Year 3 experimented with different sketching pencils. They then chose two which they preferred to work with. They then had a go at using their sketching pencils to sketch a different view of Stonehenge. This time they looked at sketching a more 3D version and using their pencils to shade.

LO: I can sketch Stonehenge from a picture

Year 3 finished off their sketches from last week, by outlining their sketch in black pen and rubbing out their pencil sketching. They then looked very carefully at a picture of Stonehenge and used their skills from the guided sketching to sketch from a picture.

Year 3 continued their Stonehenge topic with a guided sketching session. They followed along and observed the different shapes, then sketched them into their books.

Year 3 started their new Stonehenge topic by finding out about Stonehenge.They watched a video clip, followed along with a PowerPoint discussion which ended with a quiz. They then used an information sheet to answer some questions about Stonehenge.
